All-ceramics: why modern dental aesthetics can do without metal

Modern dentistry places high demands on restorations: they should be stable, well tolerated, fit precisely – and look as natural as possible.

Light instead of a metal framework

Unlike classic metal-supported restorations, there is no metal framework beneath the ceramic. This allows light to be absorbed and transmitted in a way that can come very close to the natural tooth.

Especially in the visible region, this is an important aesthetic advantage.

Not “the best ceramic” – but the right one

Modern high-performance ceramics such as zirconia, however, now allow far more than individual anterior crowns. Depending on the clinical situation, crowns, bridges and various implant-supported restorations can be made from them.

Which ceramic is suitable depends on the respective indication.

Load, available space, position in the dentition, preparation and desired aesthetics have to be considered together. That is why there is no “best ceramic” for every case.
