Zirconia: what lies behind the high-performance ceramic?

Sintering furnace with glowing ceramic restorations

Patients usually only encounter zirconia when the dentist or dental laboratory talks about the choice of material. In modern dental laboratories, however, the high-performance ceramic has long been one of the most important materials.

The reason lies in its combination of mechanical properties, biocompatibility and aesthetic possibilities.

From blank to sintering furnace

The previously digitally designed restoration is precisely milled from an industrially manufactured blank. This is followed by a decisive step: sintering.

At high temperatures, the material acquires its final properties. Only then – depending on the restoration – does the further aesthetic finishing begin.

Why not all zirconia is the same

And this is exactly where it becomes clear why not all zirconia is the same.

Material selection, design, wall thicknesses, shade concept, surface treatment and dental technical experience all influence the result.

At BLANC ET NOBLE, we therefore never look at the material alone. We look at the entire restoration.

The question should not be: “Is zirconia good?” But rather: “Which material is the right solution for this individual situation?”
